Having bi-folding doors installed is a great way to maximise the functionality of a room, they allow plenty of natural light into the room as well as making an excellent gateway into your back garden, bringing nature a little closer to you.

Once you’ve invested in having bi-folding doors installed, making sure you maintain them is essential to making sure they stand the test of time and that you get the most enjoyment from the added benefits they’ll bring to your home.

Get sparkling clean glass:

The glass of you bi-folding doors makes up the largest surface area, and as a result, are the most susceptible to rain wind and grime. It is also the most obvious part of the door to sport the aforementioned dirt and water residue, so getting a gleaming streak-free finish will go a long way to helping maintain the look and feel of your bi-folding doors.

Handy tip – Use water and vinegar to achieve a streak-free shine. Make sure you wipe down with a microfibre cloth or a squeegee for the best results.

Cleaning the frames:

Using a mild soapy solution gently wipe around the frame to remove dirt and grime. Avoid using any abrasive cleaning products wherever possible as this could potentially damage the finish of the frame. Take care when cleaning around rubber seals, simply use a damp cloth to remove any dust or debris that has collected. If there is any sign of mould around the frame it may be a sign that there is a problem with condensation. You can use an anti-mould spray to combat this but as with any cleaning products you use, be sure to do a spot test first to avoid damaging the finish.

Check your runners for dirt and debris:

Keeping the running tracks free from debris is vital for the smooth operation of your bi-folding doors. Getting a stone caught in the track will cause problems and could damage the doors mechanisms. Running a hoover nozzle up and down the track on a regular basis will help to remove any dirt, hair or grit that could potentially get lodged into the workings and cause problems.

Get your bi-folding doors installed by a professional company:

Having a professional and reliable company install your doors is highly recommended, as poor installation will not only hamper your enjoyment of your new doors but could also potentially cause damage to the mechanisms and runners; which in turn could void the warranty.
